What is Gujarat's new solar subsidy (Oct 2026)?

On 21 October 2026 the Gujarat Cabinet approved a state subsidy that is added on top of the Centre's PM Surya Ghar subsidy for home rooftop solar. It covers systems up to 2 kW. The state pays the gap so that a General household pays only 10% of the benchmark cost and an SC/ST household 5%.

Earlier, the Centre and state subsidies could not be combined. Now they can: a 1 kW system with a benchmark cost of ₹54,000 costs a General family ₹5,400 instead of ₹21,600. The state has set aside about ₹1,000 crore for more than 3 lakh families.

The GR (government resolution) and income limits have not been published yet. Figures here are from the Cabinet decision as reported, and will be updated when the GR is out.

5 kW ₹2,75,000 ₹78,000 ₹1,97,000 ₹5,676

Above 2 kW only the Centre subsidy applies, at a market price of ₹55,000 per kW (change it in Advanced settings). Monthly saving is for a Morbi home using what the system makes.

How this calculator applies the new subsidy

  1. 1. Bill → units: your 2-month bill is split into months and turned back into units using the DISCOM's slab rates, fixed charge, FPPPA and 15% electricity duty.
  2. 2. Units → kW: units a month ÷ (units one kW makes in your city a day × 30.4), rounded to whole kW.
  3. 3. Centre subsidy: the PM Surya Ghar amount for your size (up to ₹78,000).
  4. 4. Gujarat top-up: for homes up to 2 kW, the state pays the balance after the Centre subsidy and your share.
  5. 5. Your share: 10% of the benchmark cost for General, 5% for SC/ST. Above 2 kW you pay the market price minus the Centre subsidy.
  6. 6. Savings: each month, solar units cancel units you would buy (net metering). Prices rise 4% a year and panels lose 0.5% a year.
  7. 7. Payback: the month in which your total savings pass what you paid.

Who is eligible and how to apply

  • A home (residential) electricity connection in your name with PGVCL, UGVCL, MGVCL, DGVCL or Torrent Power.
  • Your own roof with shadow-free space (about 90 sq ft per kW).
  • DCR panels (made-in-India cells) installed by a vendor registered on the PM Surya Ghar portal.
  • Apply only at pmsuryaghar.gov.in. The subsidy is paid to your bank account after the DISCOM inspects and approves the system.
  • Income limit: awaiting the GR.

How to use the calculator

  1. 1

Enter your electricity bill for 2 months (or units, system size or roof area).

  2. 2

Pick your city, electricity company, connection type and category.

  3. 3

Drag the kW slider to try other sizes: everything updates as you move it.

  4. 4

Frequently asked questions

What is the new Gujarat solar subsidy 2026?
An extra state subsidy approved by the Gujarat Cabinet on 21 Oct 2026 for home rooftop solar up to 2 kW. It is added on top of the Centre's PM Surya Ghar subsidy, so a General household pays only 10% of the benchmark cost and an SC/ST household 5%.
Can I get both Centre (PM Surya Ghar) and Gujarat subsidy now?
Yes. Under the new rule the two are combined for homes up to 2 kW. Earlier you could get only the Centre subsidy.
How much do I pay for 1 kW / 2 kW solar under the new rule?
For a General household: ₹5,400 for 1 kW and ₹10,800 for 2 kW. For SC/ST: ₹2,700 for 1 kW and ₹5,440 for 2 kW. Under the old rule it was ₹21,600 and ₹44,400.
Is the new subsidy available above 2 kW?
No. The Gujarat top-up is only up to 2 kW. Above that you still get the Centre subsidy (up to ₹78,000 for 3 kW or more) and pay the rest at market price.
Who counts as an SC/ST beneficiary and how much do they pay?
Households belonging to a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe pay 5% of the benchmark cost: ₹2,700 for 1 kW and ₹5,440 for 2 kW. A caste certificate will likely be needed; the GR will confirm the documents.
Is there an income limit for the new Gujarat subsidy?
Income limits have not been announced yet. They will be in the GR. This calculator shows the "GR pending" badge until then.
When will the new subsidy start, and has the GR come out?
The Cabinet approved it on 21 Oct 2026. The GR with the start date and rules is still awaited. We will update this page when it is published.
Does the new subsidy apply in PGVCL areas like Morbi and Rajkot?
Yes. It is a Gujarat-wide scheme for home connections, so it covers PGVCL areas such as Morbi, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Surendranagar, as well as UGVCL, MGVCL, DGVCL and Torrent Power areas.
How many kW solar do I need for my bill?
In Saurashtra 1 kW makes about 130 units a month. A home using 300 units a month (about ₹5,000 PGVCL bill for 2 months) needs about 2 kW. Enter your bill above and the calculator suggests the size.
How much roof space do I need for 2 kW?
About 180 sq ft of shadow-free roof (80–100 sq ft per kW), which is 4 panels of 540 W.
Is there a loan for rooftop solar?
Yes. Banks offer collateral-free solar loans under PM Surya Ghar at a concessional rate. Turn on "Take a solar loan" in Advanced settings to compare the EMI with your monthly saving.
Who can install rooftop solar in Morbi/Rajkot?
Only a vendor registered on the PM Surya Ghar portal can install a subsidised system. Our installation partner, Sunsparkle Energy, offers a free site survey in Morbi, Rajkot, Halvad and nearby areas and helps with the application.
