How to use the tile calculator

  1. 1

Choose Floor or Wall, then enter the length and width (or width and height) of each room or wall. Use "Add room" for more rooms. You can also type the area directly.

  2. 2

For walls, add doors and windows so their area is not counted.

  3. 3

Pick your tile size. Pieces per box fill in automatically — change them if your brand packs differently.

  4. 4

Choose the laying pattern for wastage, and optionally add the tile price, labour rate and adhesive cost. Copy the result for WhatsApp or save it as a PDF.

How the calculation works

  • Total area = sum of all rooms (minus doors and windows)
  • Tiles needed = total area × (1 + wastage %) ÷ area of one tile, rounded up
  • Boxes = tiles needed ÷ pieces per box, rounded up
  • Tile cost (₹ per sq ft) = boxes × box coverage × price, because you pay for full boxes
  • GST is added on tiles, adhesive & grout and labour

Frequently asked questions

How many tile boxes do I need?
Measure the room in feet and multiply length × width to get sq ft. Add wastage (5% for straight laying), divide by the area of one tile and round up to get tiles, then divide by the pieces per box and round up again. For a 12 × 10 ft room with 600×600 tiles: 120 sq ft → 33 tiles → 9 boxes of 4.
How many 600×600 tiles are needed for 100 sq ft?
One 600×600 mm tile covers about 3.875 sq ft. For 100 sq ft with 5% wastage you need 105 ÷ 3.875 = 27.1, so 28 tiles. At 4 pieces per box that is 7 boxes.
How much wastage should I add for tiles?
Add about 5% for straight laying, 10% for diagonal laying and 15% for herringbone or rooms with many corners. Wastage covers cutting at the edges, breakage and a few spares for future repairs.
What is the difference between sq ft and sq m?
Both measure area. 1 square meter (sq m) = 10.7639 square feet (sq ft). Tile dealers in India usually quote prices per sq ft or per box, while export sizes are written in mm. The calculator shows both sq ft and sq m.
Why is the tile cost based on full boxes?
Dealers sell tiles in full boxes, so even if you need 33 tiles you pay for 9 boxes (36 tiles). The calculator multiplies boxes × box coverage × price per sq ft, so the cost matches your bill. Keep the spare pieces for future repairs.
